Nothing Beats A Good Fact Better Than A Great Story | Story Lab

Nothing Beats A Good Fact Better Than A Great Story | Story Lab | Business Improvement and Social media | Scoop.it

Especially in business settings, our tendency is to use relevant facts, case histories and sensible reasons to assert our points. But since we have been taught to believe that emotions have no place in business presentations, we ignore them. Yet, try as we might, humans are not able to achieve 100% objectivity. Feelings that result from our vantage points are always present. Moreover, they can powerfully mediate even the most logical presentations.

Jim Signorelli,Story-Lab's curator insight, July 2, 2016 1:57 PM

Have you ever given a presentation that you thought was air-tight, yet ended up with no sale?  The reason could be what's referred to "The Flaw of Rationality."

This article will show you what that is and how to counter it through storytelling.

What is the one question that will explode your #business? An interesting approach to story

I will never forget my one and only court appearance. My actions were being judged.

Even though I felt I had done nothing wrong, I hoped my honest recollection of events would clear my name. So the verdict came as a massive relief.

“Not guilty.”

Can you imagine how it felt to have that huge weight taken off my shoulders?

Actually, the words used by the magistrate were, “Mr Aronowitz, you were not responsible for this car accident.”

OK, so I wasn’t standing trial for a capital crime. All the same, when the verdict was delivered, it felt to me like the magistrate was saying “Not guilty.”

Why am I sharing this story with you?

'Go on. Storify Me.... If You're Hard Enough!'

'Go on. Storify Me.... If You're Hard Enough!' | Business Improvement and Social media | Scoop.it
There are two camps of people that we teach storytelling to.  Most people sit somewhere in the middle so these 'camps' relate to archetypes, rather than  individuals. The first camp: Story Enthusiasts
Ricard Lloria's insight:

Everyone loves to tell stories don't they? No. They don't. It can be frightening like any other 'art' as Claire Taylor demonstrates in this wonderful article about 'story enthusiasts' and 'story resisters'. It's a great reminder about considering people's fears and vulnerabilities when asking them to tell stories or develop the skill.

Of course it's worth it when you get to the other side but being up for connecting with others in such a powerful way is a pretty important place to start.
