(From the article) Think about endorsements as new and improved keywords. LinkedIn automatically defaults to ranking your skills by the number of endorsements you have, but to get more endorsements for the skills you want to emphasize, rearrange your list and move those skills higher. Also, if you’re getting endorsed for random things or for things you don’t want to be endorsed for, you can always hide either the entire skill or the particular endorser. Just set your profile to edit mode and you’ll see a little demo in the Skills and Endorsements section showing you how to edit it.

I agree with @donhornsby on this.  I know there are skeptics when it comes to LI endorsements but I think they are meaningful.

Why You Should Be Embracing LinkedIn Endorsements

Why You Should Be Embracing LinkedIn Endorsements | Business Improvement and Social media | Scoop.it

Introduced as a quick way of recommending someone, LinkedIn's endorsements has taken a life of its own and has influenced how users optimise their profiles...

For better or for worse, the introduction of LinkedIn’s endorsements has had an effect on how users approach the site. In their Q3 earnings report released at the beginning of November, the company revealed that more than 200 million endorsements have been given out by members since the feature was released back in late September and that the number of members editing their profiles has more than doubled when compared to last year. If it means that users are improving and optimising their profiles because of endorsements, then you could argue that it’s having a positive effect.

However, there has been much debate about whether LinkedIn’s endorsement feature is valuable or not. The theory behind it makes a lot of sense – for those who mightn’t have the time to write a recommendation, a single click is much easier and less time-consuming – but at the same time, some have argued that it cheapens recommendations and is an effort to recreate the Facebook ‘Like’ button. While both sides have valid points, it’s better to see endorsements as a way of complementing your profile instead of being a deal breaker for employers.

Ranking the 100 Most InDemand Employers Using LinkedIn Data [INFOGRAPHIC]

Ranking the 100 Most InDemand Employers Using LinkedIn Data [INFOGRAPHIC] | Business Improvement and Social media | Scoop.it

Whether it’s a tech start-up or a prestigious global accounting firm, some employers are more desirable than others. For companies, this affects how easily they can recruit; for employees, it’s tied to your professional reputation.

Using an extensive professional data set, LinkedIn identified which companies are most attractive to potential candidates in this infographic of LinkedIn’s Most InDemand Employers.

What makes these rankings unique is that they’re based on the actual actions of over 175 million professionals. Last year, LinkedIn had over 15 billion interactions between professionals & companies. That data was cross-referenced with thousands of survey responses to pinpoint specific activities that best indicate familiarity and interest in working for a company: connecting with employees, viewing profiles, visiting Company Pages, and following companies. After crunching this data and normalizing for things like company size, the top 100 global list was created. Then LinkedIn profile data was applied to rank the most sought-after employers among professionals in five countries and four job functions.

View the full version of the infographic at the link, where the most sought-after companies on LinkedIn's network are visualized by country, city, occupation and industry...

Building Your LinkedIn Network

Building Your LinkedIn Network | Business Improvement and Social media | Scoop.it

LinkedIn is certainly the best social media platform for the business contacts and network. To be in harmony, it’s important to respect few rules and good sense. This post will give some information about that. [note Martin Gysler]

In his book Ultimate Guide to LinkedIn for Business, author Ted Prodromou describes how to best to leverage the networking site as a business tool. In this edited excerpt, the author details the two methods of building connections on LinkedIn.

How many connections should you have on LinkedIn? I'm asked that question frequently, and there isn't a magic number that works for everyone. LinkedIn isn't a popularity contest where the person with the most connections wins. LinkedIn is about building relationships and connecting with others, which is very different than the monologue communication of Twitter.
