Ana Cristina, it all depends on the situation and the needs of the learners. For short courses or for writing skills development wikis can do a good job. For more complex courses or with larger groups, Moodle is my preferred option. An alternative to edmodo you might like to try out is https://www.schoology.com

In complete agreement Carl! It's the context that influences my choice of LMS. Because I find Edmodo meets my needs to have a simple & practical LMS for students, while at the same offering me the possibility to teach with it (e.g. word games, digital stories etc), I haven't had the need to set up wikis lately. I've heard very good things about schoology; from what I saw it's excellent as well. We really are spoilt by choice these days! (and yes, in complete agreement with you regarding Moodle; I like it especially for distance ed).
