A fresh new user experience, industry-leading media player, user tours to guide learners and educators through their learning environments, and new messaging and notifications functions for better communications are just some of the ways Moodle is improving online education.

Today, Moodle – the world’s open source learning platform – released the latest version of its software – Moodle 3.2, now available for downloading on moodle.org.

The new release has been developed with a strong focus on enhancing accessibility and user experience, based on feedback and support from global Moodle users, Moodle Partners and the Moodle community.

Dr Martin Dougiamas, Moodle founder and CEO of Moodle Pty Ltd, commented on the many new and exciting features in Moodle 3.2 that are improving accessibility and user experience.

“Firstly, I’m thrilled to introduce Boost, which marks a new direction for how Moodle looks and functions,” said Dougiamas.

“We have implemented this as an optional Moodle theme for now, so it won’t stop anyone keeping their old theme.”

“The changes are not too radical, so long-time Moodle users will learn it quickly, but they give Moodle sites a fresh, new appearance that aligns with many websites and apps that you might be familiar with.”

“With that comes better navigation, configuration and more space on your screen for important course content. We really hope the community enjoys it, and help us refine it further in releases to come.”

“We’ve also designed some great improvements to messaging and notifications, sponsored by our good friends at University of Minnesota, that make it easier to keep in touch with your course and fellow participants, no matter what device you are using,” commented Dougiamas.

“A new user tours feature, sponsored by Dublin City University, allows Moodle users to create walkthroughs that will bring engaging and informative experiences in their Moodle sites.”

“Some other major features include an industry-leading media player plugin, which includes full support for captions and subtitles, and fancy interactive report graphics and a lot more.”

In response to the increasing use of mobile devices globally to access learning online, Moodle 3.2 features are also compatible through the Moodle Mobile App.
