2016 - Higher Education Funding Council for England - Revised approach to quality assessment in higher education

HEFCE has today published a revised operating model for quality assessment in higher education in England. It heralds the next phase of the Quality Assessment Review initiated by DELNI, HEFCE and HEFCW in October 2014 as part of each funding body’s statutory responsibility for quality assessment in higher education [Note 1].

The revised approach will come into effect in England from 2016-17.

A revised operating model for quality assessment

The revised approach to quality assessment is designed to be proportionate, risk-based and grounded in the mission and context of an individual university or college and the composition of its student body. It will target regulatory activity on those institutions that represent greater risk to the student interest or to the reputation of the sector.

New Zealand’s eLearning guidelines revamp | eLearning Guidelines

New Zealand’s eLearning guidelines revamp | eLearning Guidelines | E-Learning-Inclusivo (Mashup) | Scoop.it

New Zealand’s eLearning guidelines (eLg) enter a new era this week with the launch of the updated and expanded guidelines to better support eLearning decision-making in the tertiary sector.

The guidelines support individuals and organisations wanting to develop or enhance their online teaching and learning. The 2014 eLg also consider new technologies developed since the guidelines were first established in 2004. This is supported by the launch of a new eLg website, which provides an interactive platform for people interested in engaging with the comprehensive material, and those keen to contribute to its future development.

The revamped guidelines now consider technology-supported teaching and learning from five different perspectives, with organisational leaders and quality assurance bodies joining the existing learner, teacher and manager perspectives.

QUODL - Quality of Online & Distance Education: The History of Quality in Online and Distance learning in less than 100 words?

QUODL - Quality of Online & Distance Education: The History of Quality in Online and Distance learning in less than 100 words? | E-Learning-Inclusivo (Mashup) | Scoop.it

Once upon a time education was based in institutions, which were seen as seats of learning.  Every day people would accept the quality of the courses they took, presented by people they trusted to get them through exams.  One day the internet gave people the opportunity to comment publicly on the quality of the products they bought.  Because of that clever companies like Amazon took advantage of these comments to encourage buyers’ confidence and improve sales.  Because of that people started looking for reviews of products in all sorts of selling areas before they made a purchase. Until finallyeducation realised that students are the best judges of course quality and began to prove the quality of their courses by showing student reviews alongside adverts for courses.

To be fair this is a few more words than 100 (127 if you wish to count) and the ‘Until finally’ bit might look like wishful thinking but it is happening now on the Unistats website (https://unistats.direct.gov.uk/) which is being linked by universities to their prospectus information against particular courses.
