Why Leaders Must Embrace Digital Transformation to Succeed

Why Leaders Must Embrace Digital Transformation to Succeed | E-Learning-Inclusivo (Mashup) | Scoop.it

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced many organizations around the world to digitize their workforces. As the pandemic continues and remote work becomes the new norm for many organizations, leaders who fail to effectively transition into the digital realm may struggle. However, there are steps they can take to adopt the increasingly digital workspace and become digitally savvy leaders.

Tapping Into Digital Disruption

Tapping Into Digital Disruption | E-Learning-Inclusivo (Mashup) | Scoop.it
Disruption is a fact of life we cannot ignore - either we preempt it or it will make us obsolete. Are you nimble enough to survive it's ever increasing pace

Via janlgordon
janlgordon's curator insight, December 29, 2016 10:34 AM

I selected this article from Curatti written by John Jantsch because it provides insights on how to take advantage of new technology and trends for business growth.

Understand digital disruption instead of avoiding it

Are You Ready for New Technology?

We are experiencing new trends and digital experiences like never before. I agree that in order to harness its full power you need to embrace the latest changes.

Jantsch explains what technology means to your business and how to keep up with the pace.

Here's what caught my attention:

  • In ten years we will see less cashier workers, travel agents and social media managers. It's time to move forward into the next decade of digital influence.

  • The new trend is a virtual office without a large number of employees. As a result there are better products and services being delivered.

  • People are getting older and living longer. This opens up a whole new industry in the medical field in both care and technology.

As emphasized in the excerpt below, I picture this as the old serfdom... Those who are fully digitally literate will live in the castle and those who are not will not. Further, they will be woefully ignorant of what is going on within those walls.  We must make being digital not just trendy but instead create a culture where people realize that it is a landscape that has become an intricate part of living on the planet.  It is not 'other' and people there are not 'those people' but rather a fully integrated part of humanity.

These and many other tools are available. But if you are a teacher, what do you think? Is it really necessary to have all these skills? There is so much content readily available online and if you can organise to prepare materials in teams, or have access to a PLN on or offline, then you can share the load.

Some teachers and content creators have specific skills and their expertise can be used or accessed by anyone. Personally, I think it's good for teachers to be aware of the digital possibilities for their teaching context, but it is generally unrealistic for anyone to expect all teachers to become skilled in so many different areas.

Is it not better to pick fewer areas more relevant to you and focus on them? Be a master of a few areas useful to you, not a jack of all trades feeling stressed that you are master of none.

Carina Bethea's curator insight, June 7, 2015 9:00 PM

This study actually proves that digital/online learning is generally more effective than traditional learning. I can honestly say that I was a bit surprised. I am a firm believer in classroom settings as I felt as if I was "forced" to pay a lot more attention when sitting in front of the teacher, but I guess I am not the majority.
Now the next question is "which kind" of digital learning is best: distance education, online learning or blended learning? If I had to guess, I would guess blended learning, because it combines face-to-face teaching with online learning. That leaves the students and teachers with a lot more options for communication and learning/teaching methods.

Abstract

Digital curation may be regarded as a core competency in higher education since it contributes to establishing a sense of metaliteracy (an essential requirement for optimally functioning in a modern media environment) among students. Digital curation is gradually finding its way into higher education curricula aimed at fostering social media literacies. Teachers are urged to blend informal and formal learning and since most people informally use curation in their daily lives for compiling relevant information, it may be fairly easy to adopt digital curation in teaching and learning. Teachers, however, require considerable insight in incorporating various informal digital curation tools in educational practices.  The SECTIONS model may assist in guiding decisions around the suitability of digital curation tools for a higher education environment. Including digital literacy training in the professional development of academic staff members may sensitize them to the possibilities that incorporating digital approaches in curricula offer. The Five Cs of Digital Curation framework may guide academic staff members in compiling suitable digital material. There as yet appears not to be a pedagogy that fully acknowledges the various digital curation processes. A pedagogy of abundance, acknowledging that content often is freely available and abundant, may eventually prove relevant in this regard.
