What the Heck is... Gamification? via @BernardMarr

What the Heck is... Gamification? via @BernardMarr | E-Learning-Inclusivo (Mashup) | Scoop.it

Marty Note
Great post here by a new to me but smart and gets it marketing author Bernard Marr on Linkedin. I posted a comment at the end sharing a link to one of my most popular Haiku Decks - Gamifying Content Marketing http://shar.es/1ag0sH.

Didn't do that to hone in as much as add in. Bernard's post shares some good examples of different gamification applications. The trend in HR and other internal departments to gamify is proving powerful.

I'm interested in the S/R curve of B2C ecommerce websites and find, especially in a connected mobile time, many places where "play" can create the tribes, support and engagement we lucky few Internet marketers crave and are finding harder and harder to create.

Great post, horrible photo (at least for me), so didn't perpetuate it here. Bernard's post is worth a read if you are new to gamification and he is a solid follow. M

Teachers Surveyed on Using #Games in Class | #gamification | E-Learning-Inclusivo (Mashup) | Scoop.it
We have an early look at some of the interesting data coming out of a larger report on teacher attitudes around the use of games in the classroom. The numbers hint at wider use of games in the classroom and indicate teachers see the real benefit of games in helping low-performing students.

Do you think games have a place in your classroom? This newly released data is from a survey of 694 K-8 teachers in the U.S. that the Joan Ganz Cooney Center conducted in 2013 to see how teachers are using digital games in their classrooms.
What are some of the findings?

* 74% of teachers are using games in their classroom

* 55% of students play games at least once a week

* 72% of students access games on a PC or a Mac, and 41% of teachers use a white board to share games

* The two greatest barriers are the time it takes to implement games (45%) and the cost of the games (44%)

This post from Games and Learning provides the current data in both a visual and written form. There is much more to be found on the website. You may also want to check out the Joan Ganz Cooney Center. They have also published an article on this which may be found at http://www.joanganzcooneycenter.org/2014/06/09/digital-games-in-the-classroom-a-national-surevy/

Threes A Mobile Game & "Design Marvel" Worth Your Play - CNET | E-Learning-Inclusivo (Mashup) | Scoop.it

The image of the emblematic smartphone game has not been held in high regard of late. Certainly not with titles like Flappy Bird seemingly taking over the world, earning $50,000 a day off our meaningless compulsions and further cementing the well of condescension "hardcore" gamers have for the mobile platform and its capacity.

That's where Threes comes in. Released Wednesday as a universal iPhone and iPad app, the $1.99 title -- a simple math-based puzzler with gorgeous design and catchy music -- is what a overtly refreshing, downright fantastic mobile game should be.

Online Quizzes for Regional Geography

Online Quizzes for Regional Geography | E-Learning-Inclusivo (Mashup) | Scoop.it

"For Regional Geography, I ask that all my students take an online quizzes before coming to class because it is very difficult to intelligently discuss European issues if you don’t know the countries of Europe, where they are and what other countries are on their borders.  Quizzes and knowing places doesn’t define geography, but if geography were English literature, knowing about places could be described as the alphabet–before you write a sonnet or critique an essay, you better know your ABC’s and basic grammar.  Given that, I like the Lizard Point Geography quizzes and those from Click that ‘Hood; they are simple, straightforward and comprehensive."

Plethora of educational gaming sites that are geared towards elementary students. I've used http://funbrain.com and http://abcya.com before with my Kindergartners. A center-orientated system could be effective in getting kids to rotate from computer to computer, entrenching them in different subjects such as reading, writing, spelling, and math.
