10 Things Every Teacher Needs To Survive - TeachThought

10 Things Every Teacher Needs To Survive - TeachThought | E-Learning-Inclusivo (Mashup) | Scoop.it
What a teacher needs depends on the teacher.

Emerging learning trends, data management resources, literacy strategies, digital tools, exemplar curriculum models, increased or decreased autonomy, classroom management tips–this is a list that could get long fast.

But sometimes it can be those less visible characteristics that can determine a teacher’s long-term success. Below I’ve listed 10 ‘things’ every teacher needs to ‘survive’ in the classroom. Some of these are abstract, like mindset, while others are skills like organization and time management. I just tried to brainstorm a variety of factors that can contribute to teachers ‘making it.’

In the second film in a series, BBC Wales education correspondent Arwyn Jones asks those in power in Finland how they maintain education standards as the country has topped international rankings in the past.

When the last set of Pisa results came out three years ago, Wales had slipped down the tables and is hoping for a better showing in the latest figures next week.

I thought this was in interesting little picture. Teachers don't make a lot of money especially starting out so this will most likely be a necessity for me in starting my career

In Pursuit of Personalized Learning

In Pursuit of Personalized Learning | E-Learning-Inclusivo (Mashup) | Scoop.it

The complex needs of our 21st century learners are driving our education systems to a new focus on personalized learning. Articles, videos and blogs with impressive examples of personalized learning are flooding the media. Many examples involve uses of technology that amaze and motivate us to move forward in that direction, but what can we do in the meantime? Are there basic shifts in focus we can take to move us forward without weeks of PD or specialized training?

The four descriptions in this blog help to clarify PL and identify some strategies that foster this preferred way of learning. These strategies are already evident in our classrooms and with more emphasis can be used as a springboard to greater personalized learning opportunities.

1. "Teaching students HOW to think instead of WHAT to think"

2. "Opening the door to Choices"

3. "Creating collaborative cultures"

4. "Showcasing the Learning Process"

5 Ways Kermit the Frog is a Great Teacher - Quinn Rollins  @jedikermit

5 Ways Kermit the Frog is a Great Teacher - Quinn Rollins  @jedikermit | E-Learning-Inclusivo (Mashup) | Scoop.it
It's no secret that Kermit the Frog is one of my heroes. My Twitter handle is @jedikermit, my car's license plate is KERMIT, my desk toys, framed photos and magazine covers and artwork--I'm a fan of the frog. This week is Kermit the Frog's birthday (a matter of some dispute, but May 9 is cited most often these days), and it has me thinking about him. Like I wasn't anyway.

Part of the reason I've loved him -- and many of you have -- is that he's a great teacher. I first met him as a character on Sesame Street, not The Muppet Show or Muppet movies. And on Sesame Street, he was often the role of a grownup among more juvenile characters (you could argue the same for The Muppet Show, actually), teaching other characters and even real actual human children. There are five things in particular I love about How Kermit Teaches, that I think we can all learn from:

Beaven (2013) Qualitative methods for researching teachers’ (re)use of OER | E-Learning-Inclusivo (Mashup) | Scoop.it

This paper proposes variations around the themes of Peer Observation of Teaching and Professional Conversations as tools to investigate the use and reuse of OER by teachers. It reports on two qualitative studies on the use and reuse of OER by language teachers at the Open University UK. Teachers use LORO (loro.open.ac.uk), an open repository of OER for language teaching, to select their teaching resources.
