The online crash courses are designed to educate you! To inform you! To inspire you! To entertain you! To dazzle you! To make you think! We did not design boring crash courses for beginners. These are not basic courses with just some theory. We do not aim to be complete, we cherry picked our way through the topics with the aim to interest you, to inform you and to inspire you!

There are two ways in which digital technology can transform life in higher education institutions. Universities can, for instance, choose their own tech solutions, which seems simple but is a lot harder than you might think. Or they can use technology that comes from outside sources, such as the smartphone, TikTok teachers, Grammarly and, most recently, ChatGPT. These developments are even more difficult to control. Thinking about the impact of technology is a crucial competence, not only for IT students but also for students from all other courses. After all, disciplines such as healthcare, logistics, economics and journalism are also becoming increasingly imbued with digital technology.

AI ethics has never been far from the industries it sought to critique. While originally designed to bring values such as fairness, accountability and transparency to Big Tech and its products, the lines between Big Tech’s PR initiatives and AI ethics funding has never been clear. In practice, AI ethics now operates as a means for the co-option of critics and to enable regulatory capture. It is used by corporations to create legitimacy and to further accumulate value. The result is that ‘ethics’ has now become a high-valued industrial commodity, and AI ethics its foundry.
