Rebuilding Engagement with Work and Life

Rebuilding Engagement with Work and Life  | #HR #RRHH Making love and making personal #branding #leadership | Scoop.it
Often as coaches, we work with coachees who are disengaged with their current work and life. They may be successful in their chosen profession and may have achieved all they wanted to. They don’t see anything more worth achieving. Yet they still have 20 or more years of productive life in front of them.

We might typically work to re-engage such a coachee by getting them to re-examine their values and what’s important to them, and we work with them to help find new meaning in what they do or to find something that gives them meaning and purpose.

I’d like to propose a simple tool that can help in this direction.

The Battle For Motivation

The Battle For Motivation | #HR #RRHH Making love and making personal #branding #leadership | Scoop.it
So what can companies do to navigate these new tough times and keep their employees motivated? Keeping up with a changing global economy might demand that companies adapt their engagement approaches, their reward strategies or even their organizational design. But more than anything, the solution might lie in creating a change in the work climate itself.

For some, that change begins at the top. Meet Kurt Graves, who became the CEO of Intarcia Therapeutics, a Boston-based start-up, after several high-level stints at large outfits like Novartis and Merck. He says that over his career, he’s seen companies get tripped up by their own managers, who drive down employee motivation. “There are a lot of mediocre companies with a lot of people who are stuck and lost because their leadership is stuck and lost.” Harvard professor Amabile couldn’t agree more. She points out how her study found only one in seven companies “where the managers paid sufficient attention to whether people in the trenches had what they needed.”

5 Body Language Tricks to Instantly Boost Your Confidence

5 Body Language Tricks to Instantly Boost Your Confidence | #HR #RRHH Making love and making personal #branding #leadership | Scoop.it

Feeling like your confidence could use a boost? Don't stress about it; we all feel anxious and less than fully confident from time to time. When we're in that situation, what we really need to get ourselves moving again with confidence is actually to do just that--to change the way our bodies are moving.

Here are five body-language tricks to make you feel instantly more confident. Check them out to turn down your insecurities while you turn up your positive self-regard.

1. Smile.

It seems silly to smile for no reason, but somehow, our brains are able to be affected by the emotions we tell it to feel more often than not. Even if we smile to no one but ourselves, cracking a grin instantly boosts our self-esteem levels--maybe even subliminally reminding us of times that felt better. When your confidence is lagging, try smiling and see what happens.

2. Stretch tall.

Unless you're abnormally tall, making yourself feel taller in front of anyone can be a useful way to feel bigger--and better--even if its temporary. Don't slouch or roll your shoulders forward. The hunching down tells others, as well as yourself, you don't mind making yourself small.

#HR 6 Low-Cost Ways to Motivate Your Small Team | #HR #RRHH Making love and making personal #branding #leadership | Scoop.it

Gray skies, chilly temperatures, failed New Year's resolutions: these unfortunate afflictions can all contribute to winter blues. Feeling down? Your team might be, too. But employee happiness and engagement are key to work productivity and success.

Research shows happiness at work makes people 12 percent more productive. And in one Gallup study, highly engaged teams outperformed poorly engaged teams by 22 percent in profitability.

As a leader, that means fighting winter gloom should be a priority.

While larger companies may have the resources for structured employee development programs or more lucrative perks, smaller companies must take a different approach. Here are six low-cost tactics you can implement today to boost motivation and provide a positive work environment in which team members thrive:

3 Simple Secrets to Motivating People

3 Simple Secrets to Motivating People | #HR #RRHH Making love and making personal #branding #leadership | Scoop.it

One of the key roles any leader plays is finding ways to motivate your team to reach your organization's goals. But the secret to motivating people is, wait for it .....that you can't do it. I have studied this issue by talking to and working with thousands of people over many years and the one thing everyone can agree on is that you can't motivate someone to do what they don't want to do.

What you need to do instead is find out what people want and then show them how they can get it. Motivation is intrinsic. People get excited about pursuing a goal when it's in their own self-interest. As a leader, the trick is to see if you can find an alignment between what your people want and what will help grow the organization. The upside is that if you can tap into the underlying desires people have, you will get amazing performances in return from them.
