#Management in the Second Machine Age

#Management in the Second Machine Age | #HR #RRHH Making love and making personal #branding #leadership | Scoop.it

The developed world stands at the cusp of a major transformation unlike anything experienced since the Gilded Age. That period (the name was coined by Mark Twain and his neighbor Charles Dudley Warner in their 1873 satire of the times) offered immense economic expansion and wealth creation in the United States, but it also led to a major disruption in the occupational mix of the citizenry and an associated set of social upheavals. Entrepreneurs built colossal businesses while laborers shifted from farms to factories.

Seth Godin on the Difference Between Leadership and Management

Seth Godin on the Difference Between Leadership and Management | #HR #RRHH Making love and making personal #branding #leadership | Scoop.it

Managers figure out what they want done and get people to do it. Managers try to get people to do what they did yesterday, but a little faster and a little cheaper with a few less defects. But this is not leadership.

Leadership: Will They Weep when you Leave ?

Leadership: Will They Weep when you Leave ? | #HR #RRHH Making love and making personal #branding #leadership | Scoop.it
All of us know that people leave their bosses and not the organization. But the reverse is also true. People stay in organizations for their bosses. But these type of bosses are a rare phenomenon.

This is a great question.  Will they weep or have a party?

From the post on what great management leaders do:

They care  : In the corporate world,  sometimes we think that if you are caring and concerned about your team, they will take advantage.  The project manager/leader might be branded as a "soft" manager.  I somehow totally disagree with this. I think the managers who show emotional intelligence and care for their team, win them over for life.

A smile, a pat of appreciation soars the motivation of the team to the highest level.

Do you smile often ?

Do you remember their birthdays?

Do you speak encouragingly when you feel they are trying hard to meet the deadline but are facing some problems ?

When speaking about mindfulness many people associate it only to yoga and eastern philosophies or generally speaking the “soft stuff”. You may also think: what does that have to do with management and leadership?

The One Big Secret of Amazing Leaders

The One Big Secret of Amazing Leaders | #HR #RRHH Making love and making personal #branding #leadership | Scoop.it

Over my career, I have been blessed and I have been cursed. I have been blessed when managed, coached and trained in business, sports and life by some of the world’s best leaders. However at times I have also been cursed by being managed, trained and coached by some of the world’s worst leaders.

The best leaders brought out the best in me and helped me to excel. The worst strangled my creativity and questioned my abilities, which robbed me of confidence and courage.

What was it that those amazing leaders had that made me develop so much, excel in my skills and abilities and ultimately succeed? The secret is an encouraging spirit.

Daniel Watson's insight:

Small business owners in particular, often fail to understand the different roles played by leaders and managers, and as a consequence their businesses suffer because of either a lack of leadership or a lack of management.

To clearly understand the differing roles played by leaders and managers, a business owner needs firstly to understand, the key differences between managers and leaders.

This excellent short video, offers ten clear differentiators between leaders and managers, and suggests that businesses require both leadership and management to be successful.

David Schultz's curator insight, April 3, 2013 3:33 PM

I like the simplicity of this video, and I don't disagree with anything they say fundamentally.  In fact I think they are right on the mark with the exception of their use of the word "follower."  They say that Leaders produce followers, but I believe leaders produce leaders.  They may be front line employees who do not lead anyone else, but instead of following they lead out in their sphere of responsibilities.

So other than a little nuance in semantics this is a great video.
