But our biggest services sector also produces roughly 40% of landfill waste and accounts for 18.1% of Australia’s carbon footprint. The sector must change its practices fast for Australia to meet its commitments to cut emissions under the Paris Agreement.

The shipping industry aims to align with a 1.5 degrees Celsius trajectory in accordance with the Paris Agreement, this requires that zero-emission fuels make up 5% of international shipping fuels by 2030.
Shipping’s 2030 breakthrough target rests on an increased supply of technology, mobilisation of finance, supportive policy measures, aggregated demand for scaleable zero-emission fuels and an equitable approach that ensures a truly global transition.
Actively tracking the industry’s progress towards 5% will help identify current gaps and challenges to inspire action.

More than 300 U.S. companies, including 72 with annual revenues exceeding $100 million, have sent an open letter to President-elect Donald Trump, urging him not to abandon the Paris climate agreement. The letter calls for Mr. Trump and other American leaders to support three broad actions: 1) Continuation of low-carbon policies; 2) Investment in the low-carbon economy at home and abroad; and 3) Continued U.S. participation in the Paris agreement.
