So sang Simon and Garfunkel when they were feeling groovy. This morning you can feel groovy, too. Just join the walking meditation at The Villages Polo Club. “It’s a great way to get out in nature and also relax the mind,” said Nancie Leon, of the Village of Winifred, above, who will lead the group. “When your mind is clear, things fall into place and you learn a lot about yourself.” To the group of about eight to 16 in a meditative state of mind, Leon will start with some warmup exercises. Then the walking meditation begins. The object is to be present in the moment by focusing on the steps. First, one slow step with the left leg, breathing in, foot down. A brief pause, then another slow step with the right, breathing out, foot down. Another focal point could be words like “breathe in, breathe out.” Follow that with focused breathing and before you know it, you’re in the zone.
