"In this session at PubCon Las Vegas, I speak about how one can impact their overall search visibility utilizing social media. The two are becoming more inter-twinned each and every day. While search marketing used to consist of good on-page SEO (title tags, meta data, etc.), now there are links and social signals that are also needed for one to experience good organic search visibility. Excerpted from article: "Facebook announced the launch of Global Pages, a new structure to business pages for global brands aimed to provide a better, localized experience for international brands' prospects and customers.
The new structure consolidates a business' global Facebook presence into one place while still providing a localized experience.
The idea is, rather than a global brand maintaining one general, broadly targeted Facebook page -- or juggling multiple Facebook Pages set up for each different international market -- that brand can instead maintain and promote one centralized Facebook Page URL.
Visitors to that page will then get routed to the most appropriate version of a page based on their home country, where they will see a localized version of the page, which the administrator can customize to include different cover photos, profile photos, applications, milestones, 'About' information, and news feed stories.
The global marketer can set up their Global Pages structure to create localized pages for the specific markets (i.e. single or multicountry regions) they're targeting. They can also set up a default page that all other users outside of these specific markets get directed to.
3 Key Benefits of Global Pages: 1) A Centralized Facebook Presence...

Google updated its Google+ mobile apps for iOS and Android devices this week, adding support for Google+ pages. So now business owners that promote their brands using Google+ can do so from their mobile devices.
The update allows page owners to manage their page, create new posts, and comment on other posts from their mobile devices, all features that were previously only available for Google+ personal accounts. Of course, Facebook has an app that allows page owners to manage their accounts, and Twitter can be used from nearly any mobile device. So this update from Google+ was definitely needed if the company wants its platform to be seen as a viable social media option for many businesses.
Aside from the ability to use Google+ pages, the new updates include a few additional features. For Android, the update features a new “find people” option, which lets users search for other people and topics on the site. The Android version also includes a new home screen widget and easier navigation for photos.
The iOS update gives users the option to edit posts and save photos to the phone’s camera roll. It also includes support for iPhone 5 and iOS 6, which comes much later than many other social apps, but is an important feature for many users nonetheless. The update also incorporates some new features and layouts for both Android and Apple tablets.

Giuseppe Mauriello: I read this interesting article on GigaOM by Jim Hornthal that published an excerpt from his TED ebook “Haystack Full of Needles: Cutting Through the Clutter of the Online World to find a Place, Partner, or President.”
Here are some points that they caught my attention: "What happens when data is huge? We get lost. Discovery, not search, will produce the next data-exploration breakthrough.
In the modern era, information overload has become an even larger problem than information scarcity. Data is generated by the ton, and most of it is not remotely relevant or useful. The way we search has even created a gray market in this thin veneer of content, often referred to as “faux content.”
Estimates vary but all point to evidence that a great percentage of the web today is simply manufactured sites created specifically to scoop up visitors in search of ad dollars. The effect isn’t just a nuisance, and makes sifting through the ever growing tons of online data even more confounding.
The back-link game, or the process by which websites can purchase inbound links — Google’s original secret sauce that generated results based on the “authority” of a web page — has become vital to generating superior search results, and the multibillion-dollar search-engine optimization industry is built on reverse-engineering the actual search algorithms for commercial gain.
Rich Skrenta, the CEO of the spam-free search engine Blekko, frames this de-evolution in an interesting way: “Today, the Web has become a tragedy of the commons, a social system ruled by spam — over 90 percent of URLs today are pure junk!”
Fortunately, there is a growing band of innovators who have taken up the challenge and are tackling those issues — with startlingly similar approaches. Their universal mission is to employ relevant, expert-based pattern recognition to generate a useful consumer outcome.
For these passionate discovery engineers, the goal is not to find a needle in a haystack, but instead to present a haystack of needles, an array of potential valuable answers to a growing list of useful and impactful questions..."

Excerpted from article on SEOmoz: "It's no secret. When engineers built Google+, they constructed an SEO juggernaut to dominate search results above all other social platforms. There are several ways to take advantage of this SEO domination for your own benefit.
1. Follow your profile links: Google+ not only allows you to link to your other profiles across the web, but you can embed followed links directly into your bio with the anchor text of your choice.
2. Embed post links: Like profile links, Google+ also allows you to insert followed links directly into your posts – as many as you want. Simply insert the full URL and Google will automatically format it as a link. The value of these links increases the number of times the post is shared, linked to and +1’ed.
3. Optimize your G+ title tags: The first sentence of your Google+ post becomes part of the title tag, which is highly correlated with rankings and greatly influences click-through rates. Choose your keywords carefully and consider that the first sentence will be the first thing most people see.
4. Unlimited editing power: Google+ is just like your own mini personal blogging platform. This means you can fully edit any of your posts at any time. Not so with Facebook or Twitter.
5. Index new content lightning fast: If you share new content on Google+, chances are that Google will index the page very quickly. Rumor has it that new URLs are crawled almost instantly. This makes complete sense as part of the purpose of Google+ was to replace Twitter when creating Google's Realtime Search.
6. Stalk Connect with influencers: Google+ lists 17 different notification triggers that can help you connect with influencers in your industry. Depending on the individual's account settings, these notifications can take the form of an email, phone SMS, or the omnipresent red Google notification bar.
7. Optimize your author pic for more traffic: If you successfully implement the author tag and have an eye-catching pic you can often grab free traffic away from even your competitor's #1 ranking.
8. Test drive a G+ social media dashboard: Adam Singer created an awesome social media dashboard that you can use for free. At one glance you can view all your essential metrics from Google+ traffic and all other social networks including: - On Site Social Actions, i.e. Google +1's; http://www.google.com/analytics/web/permalink?uid=erNMqvwYQIWKDiA7dkHbJQ
9. Check your CircleRank: My favorite new tool is CircleCount. Try it now by pasting in your Google+ URL to chart your daily follower growth, the virality of your posts, and even see your "CircleRank" score compared against all other Google+ profiles.
10. Be an awesome (Late) early adopter: Even with it's explosive growth, only 1 in 4 people use Google+ once a month. The rest log in even less, although this number is growing fast..."
